Why use 100% natural skin products?
A natural product is described as one that contains mostly or completely naturally derived ingredients. Being that the human skin constitutes a living, dynamic tissue system that has the remarkable ability to absorb applied products, partially or completely, into the bloodstream, we feel switching to all-natural skin products can help you to avoid feeding your skin harmful chemicals. Everything we make is always 100% natural.
Are your items handmade?
Yep, all of our bath and body items are handcrafted and manufactured in St. Charles, MO. Everything is made in small batches so you never need to worry about how long your product has been sitting on a stock shelf.
How long do your products last?
Because of the nature of our products - all-natural, no preservatives - we guarantee items to stay fresh for at least 6 months, although most items will last for a year. A good test on how fresh your item is will be the scent. We use pure essential oils that by their nature will begin to lose some of their properties as time passes.
Why only essential oils?
At Black Birch you will never find a scent that isn't derived from nature, this is because we will never use fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are inexpensive manufactured scents. They are artificially created fragrances that contain artificial substances. Most will be diluted with a carrier like propylene glycol, vegetable oil, or mineral oil. These oils may also contain ingredients such as petroleum or coal tar, within limits established by the FDA. These ingredients can be harmful to humans and animals, e.g. allergic skin
Although essentials oils are much more expensive than fragrance oils, (it can take about 30 petals of a rose to make a single drop of rose oil) we truly value putting out quality products that we can stand behind and that offer true aromatherapeutic attributes. To us your health isn't worth a blueberry scented scrub. We use 100% pure steam distilled plant oils with an unsurpassable fragrance, exceptional depth, magnificent keynote, and are free of carriers, diluents and other inputs. Are citrus oils are distilled strictly through cold pressed methods, and no steam distillation is employed to produce these oils.
The ONLY essential oils we use are ...
- True Certified Organic by OTCO and when not certified organic they are always free of pesticide and chemical residues
- Harvested and distilled in clean facilities
- From first distillations
- Guaranteed fresh
- True therapeutic quality
- Quality control tested and supervised by a certified aromatherapist
Why do some companies use fragrance oils?
It is incredibly cheap to scent a product artificially, and those scents tend to have a stronger odor with much less oil. In addition to being hazardous to your health, without the complex chemical components of the unadulterated natural essential oil, the aromatherapeutic effects are not present. The FDA does not require fragrance manufacturers to disclose the ingredients of synthetic fragrances.
Why amber containers?
All essential oils benefit from proper storage and handling. To avoid deterioration and protect the aromatic and therapeutic properties of our products we store them in amber bottles. Be leery of purchasing any product made with essential oils that are sold in clear bottles. Clear bottles are not harmful to essential oils, but clear glass does not protect the oils from damaging sunlight. Same reason beer is often bottled in amber glass.
